Thesis Statement!!!

Photographs can be interpreted in different ways based on the techniques used by the photographers, the reality and perception of each individual, and the story behind each moment captured.

  1. Natalie,

I like your start. I would add a phrase at the beginning-- "Despite the photographer's intent"-- and eliminate the passive voice "can be interpreted" and make the phrase "different ways" more specific. You seem to be using the ideas of objectivity and subjectivity, so I'd throw those terms into the thesis as well.

How is this: "Despite or beyond the photographer's intent, the meaning of a photograph is subjective and dependent on the viewer's reaction to the photographic technique, the context in which the viewer experiences the photograph, and the extent to which the viewer knows the story behind the moment captured in the photograph."
